Womens Ministry (WINS)

WINS Ministry (Women IN Service)

Women IN Service is designed to meet the needs of today’s busy woman. Women need one another’s encouragement, prayers and guidance. Our goal is to bring together women of all ages and stages of life. The beauty of joining together is that we all learn from each other. As we mature in godliness, we are much more equipped to handle all that life hands us. The WINS vision is to offer opportunities to the women of the church to serve Christ by serving others.

How Do I Get Involved?

Since WINS has on-going activities throughout the year, it’s easy to get involved! Be sure and check out our calendar, read the church newsletter, or simply call the church office at 806-355-7303 or email Vicki Gordon at wins@thecolonies.org. Also, the WINS planning committee meets the first Monday of each month in the conference room at 11:00am. All women are welcome to come and share ideas!

“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” Ephesians 2:10 NIV

Come And Be a Part of This Important Work for Christ!

Baby and Wedding Showers

Getting married and having a baby are two of the most exciting times in a woman’s life. Here at the Colonies, we like to share in the excitement by hosting wedding showers for our church members or the fiancé of a church member. We also like to honor our first-time moms with a baby shower. We are always looking for ladies who wish to serve in this area. Please call the church office at 355-7303 if this ministry is for you!

Care Meals

One of the many ways that we can show our love and concern for people when there is a sickness or other life challenge, is by bringing a meal to their home. If you are interested in being called to prepare a meal on a rotation basis, email Vicki at wins@thecolonies.org or call 355-7303.

Charitable Drives

Several times throughout the year, WINS hosts a variety of charitable collection drives. Here is a list of yearly collections that we do:

  • COAT DRIVE benefitting the Eveline Rivers Christmas Project. This typically takes place toward the last of October/first of November. For more information on the Christmas Project go to www.evelineriversproject.org.
  • SCHOOL SUPPLY DRIVE benefitting Whittier Elementary School in Amarillo. Each July, we collect a variety of school supplies for kids in need. Our chosen school, Whittier, is one of the largest in the district. All items are delivered to the school where they are passed out to the children by the school social worker on an “as needed” basis.
  • THANKSGIVING MEAL DRIVE benefitting some of the children and their families from Whittier Elementary. Every year we take up money in each of our Sunday school classes to purchase food for needy families at Thanksgiving. The Sunday before Thanksgiving, WINS volunteers, as well as, the kids of the CREW go shopping for the componets of the meals. (On a side note, The Colonies has received the “Heart of a Child Award” from Amarillo Independent School District because of our volunteer efforts with Whittier.)
  • PEANUT BUTTER DRIVE benefitting Snack Pak 4 Kids. Each year we strive to collect at least 2,000 jars of peanut butter that will be sent home to area kids in their “snack paks”. Watch this website or read the weekly newsletter for dates of the drive. For more information on Snack Pak 4 Kids go to www.snackpak4kids.org.

Funeral Meals

The Funeral Meal Ministry’s main purpose is to assist families by providing the gift of a meal either before or after a funeral. Women can be a part of this much needed service by preparing specific food items and bringing them up to the church or by helping serve/clean up during the meal. If you are interested in being on the call list, please email Vicki at wins@thecolonies.org or call the church office at 355-7303.

High Plains Children’s Home

The first Sunday of each month, food is collected to take to the different houses that make up the High Plains Children’s Home. Food items that are often brought include: drinks, frozen casseroles/lasagna, dry cereals, cookies/cakes, and snack foods.

We also make sack lunches approximately once a quarter to pass out to people at various locations throughout the city. Please check the calendar for these times.

Special Event Service

Throughout the year, the Colonies hosts a variety of “in-house” programs and events. Some of our biggest events include: Annual Christmas Program and Dinner, Valentine’s Dinner, Chili Fest, Ice Cream Supper, 4th of July Extravaganza, and the Church-Wide Fall Festival. As we all know, these programs can’t happen without the help of many volunteers! Be sure and check the church calendar, weekly newsletter and Sunday bulletin for details on dates and how you can get involved!

Spring and Fall Brunch

Each year the Women’s Ministry hosts both a Spring Fling and Fall Brunch. These are events of fun, food and fellowship! We have done fashion shows, craft/cooking bizares and had special guest speakers. Both of these events are great days to invite friends! If you have an idea about a particular theme or just want to help out with either the Spring Fling or Fall Brunch, why not come to one of the WINS planning committee meetings on the first Monday of the month at 11:00am. We encourage everyone’s involvement!

Ronald McDonald House

The first Thursday of each month is designated for “cooking at the Ronald McDonald House”.  We are always looking for people to join this cooking team!  You can find out more about our local Ronald McDonald House by visiting their website at rmhofamarillo.org .

We are also collecting “pop tabs” from soda cans to donate to the Ronald McDonald House (RMH). A house-shaped collection box is in the main foyer. If you would like more information on the RMH, please visit their website at www.rmhcofamarillo.org.
